A Chicken With No Head and a Silver Lining

My intentions to always improve myself, mentally and physically are always at the top of my to do list. So I have chosen Yoga, Dance, Jogging, and various forms of meditations and therapies to accomplish this. Cardio being my least favorite, the sweat, the red face and shortness of breath has been a struggle for me because I am afraid that I will overextend myself and cause an injury.

Amen!

Yesterday though, was funny, I was so proud because I was going to my first BooTy Class put on by a someone I have known for a long time. She has a great reputation for being a good instructor and has had years of experience. This class in particular involves one of my all time favorite types of exercise and that is dance. I was so prepared, starting the night before, I made a mental note of what I needed to pack in my work out bag and found the address of the studio and plugged it into the GPS on my phone. My Daughter was going to the city with her dad to celebrate the birthday of her Grandmother, so I was off the hook on trying to find her a sitter.

Perfect! I was all set or so I thought.

I got up in the morning at 6 a.m. and drank my water and had a shower. I would pack both my daughters overnight bag and my exercise bag at the same time. I made her a nice breakfast of two sunny side eggs, a piece of homemade bread toasted and a glass of milk. Knowing that she would probably only eat a little of what I made her and I could devour the rest of her meal when she became full. A common routine for a lot of parents that do not want the waste of a perfectly good breakfast. I get my protein and a bit of complex carbs to fuel my body for my pending 10 o’clock workout.

My daughter was really excited to go see her cousins and her dad’s side of the family so time seemed to go really fast because I was excited too! At 9 o’clock Myahs dad Ryan, picked her up like planned. I wanted to be sure where this Booty class was so I asked him to explain where the Church was located. He told me so I felt extra confident and excited because it reaffirmed what I had thought. I usually prefer to work out alone, so I was looking really forward to my first group exercise class.

I left my house at 9:25 and walked to the bank four blocks away to deposit some money before I continued on to my class. I figured walking there would be a great warm up, and I really do love a good walk. While rifling through my bag for my wallet I realized that I forgot my water bottle, no biggy, I had time and I walked back home to get it after depositing my money. So off I go for a second time at about 9:38, I was pushing it a little close but I thought that I should make it with a few minutes to spare, perfect!

As I approached the Ukrainian Church I noticed no BMW in the parking lot. I pulled out my phone and started texting my friend with the sinking feeling that, I am not at the right place. I walked around the whole church to be sure I didn’t miss the instructors SUV or any other vehicles.

Nothing.

It was 9:52 and I thought, if I book it may be I could make it to the right place. So I quickly texted the instructor and then even phoned her. I didn’t expect her to hold the class back just for one person, but may be just may be I could get there and be only a few minutes late.

The town that I live in has a lot of Churches more than one of them being Ukrainian and or Catholic. Where I got the idea that this elusive BooTy Class was in a church is beyond me, but I quickly understood my mistake. The instructor texted me back and explained that the class was at the Ukrainian Dance Studio not a church and she would have to start without me. We were both sorry to have not been able to do a group workout together. She had been asking me to join her classes for years now. I feel so thankful that she still even asks me!

I have been working out for many years now so if I see an opportunity to get some exercise I take it. So I made the decision that I was going to take advantage of my fast heart beat and keep the cardio up by doing a bit of a hike. I managed to walk for about 25-30 minutes in total that morning. I was also able to have a good laugh at my self and get my much needed cardio in too. A win win for me, because a year ago this would have thrown my whole day off. Instead it was an exhilarating and humorous experience. I walked in a part of town I never really see often so it was rather refreshing as well. I told the instructor I’d be there next class, but this time I will ask a friend to join us to reassure that I get my %ss there on time!!!

  1. Well Missy! At least you had a good laugh at yourself, and what could be more fun.
And to boot, some good cardio! Love it. Can’t wait until you actually go to class! Lol
